Dovercourt Surgery is situated in inner city Sheffield, south east of the centre. It serves a population living predominantly on the Wybourne, Manor, Norfolk Park and Arbourthorne Estates.
Our ethos is of a holistic, patient-centred approach. Close working and partnership with patients and an integrated and democratic Primary Health Care Team enable us to provide a quality service to our patients and community.
The Practice has always embraced change. We were Fundholders, lead Practice in a national Total Purchasing Pilot in 1997, a first wave NHS Beacon Practice for Patient and Public Involvement and we are a PMS Practice and an active member of the Central Sheffield Commissioning Consortium. The Practice also led on a successful bid for a Healthy Living Network and went on to manage it. We have always maintained strong links with the community and other organisations.
We check 4,400 patients and the list is growing. In 2008 we moved to a new purpose built premesis on skye edge. The new surgery is on a prime site with brilliant views over the city and the surrounding moors. We have a attached pharmacy - Skye Pharmacy and work closely together for the benefit of our patients.
The PHCT Clinical Team consists of the Senior Partner and 5 part-time Salaried Doctors, 2 Nurse Practitioners, a Practice Nurse, A Health Care Assistant and an attached team of integrated Community Nurses. The Admin Team consists of the Business Manager/Executive Partner, a Deputy Practice Manager, Reception Manager and 6 part-time Receptionists. We also work with a Midwife, a Podiatrist, a Homeopath, a Counsellor, 3 Mental Health Workers, a Chaplain, a Clinical Pharmacist, an Advocacy/Benefits Advisor, a dietitian, a health trainer and an advisor for the Sheffield Occupational Mental Health advisory service.
We already offer early morning appointments and plan to further extend opening hours by flexible working. The main morning surgeries are Drop-In and patients are seen by a doctor or nurse practicioner. The rest of the day consists of clinics by appointment. All the doctors share the admin work and we are virtually paperless on System One.
Future Plans
Dovercourt Surgery is one of 27 practices which make up the Central Sheffield PBC Consortium and the practice has been very involved in the clinical and managerial work of the consortium. The Practice Manager and Deputy Manager, Paul Wike and Michelle Wilde, are Lead Managers of the consortium, and Dr Read is a Clinical Lead. The consortium has developed new service re-designs for several conditions, community clinics for diabetes, COPD, dermatology, ENT, gastroenterology and more to come. This has improved access to quality care for patients closer to home. If you want to see what the consortium does, please try the link to our website: www.sheffieldhealth.co.uk/.
We teach medical students who are a welcome addition to our team and we hope to extend this as time goes on.
We hope that our patient representative group will expand and become more active because patient views are very important to us. Anyone wishing to become a patient representative is very welcome and can leave their contact details at reception.
